The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane has expressed her delight towards the South African Service (SAPS) members in the North West who came back with awards at the National Service Excellence Awards.
The 5th National Excellence Awards were held at the Durban’s Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Conference Centre. During the awards, the North West Province scooped two important awards; Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) Investigator Of the Year, Captain BJ Moela and FCS Investigator Team of the Year Lieutenant Colonel A Kruger.
Captain Moela who is a detective at Mmabatho FCS. Amongst others, he investigated suspected serial rapist cases at the FCS Unit. In of the cases, a suspect was linked to 22 cases ranging from rape to house breaking and robbery. He managed to secure 121 witnesses and ensured that they attended court. The perpetrator was ultimately sentenced to nine life imprisonment plus additional of 287 years.
Lieutenant Colonel Kruger who is the commander of Klerksdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS). Lieutenant Colonel Kruger’s team won the 2018 Service Excellence award . During the 2016/17 financial year this team secured 15 life sentences and ensured that 10 accused were sentenced to 20 years imprisonment each.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane congratulated the members and other nominees for their dedication. She said that it is good to have members who goes an extra mile being acknowledged for their stunning work and that Captain Moela and Lieutenant Colonel Kruger will be an encouragement to the members at their units as well as SAPS in the province.
