The North West MEC for Education and Sports Development Sello Lehari said he was optimistic that the matric class of 2018 will improve the results. He was addressing the media on the outcome of Executive Council (EXCO) meeting, in his capacity as a leader of Government Business. The MEC said that departmental officials will hold workshops for educators in order to improve results across the province. “We will meet with subject advisers, curriculum coordinators as well as go on “ bosberaade” to make sure that we improve our results” he said.
Lehari said that they would be engaging with the Gauteng and Free State education department to suck on how they managed to improve their matric results in 2017. Gauteng and Free State provinces came second and third with percentages of 84.2% and 81.6% respectively.
The North West province saw a decline from third to fourth position when it saw a result drop of 3.4% from 85.5% in 2016 to 82.1% in 2016.
