Two children were killed and eleven other people sustained injuries following a collision between a light motor vehicle and taxi at the Snel and Scott road intersection in Rustenburg North. According to ER24’s Russel Meiring, the cause of the accident is not yet known. “Paramedics discovered the bodies of two children, believed to be aged between six and eight, lying near the taxi. Unfortunately, they were declared dead. Eleven other children were found to have sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment,”said Meiring.
The Rustenburg Local Municipality said it has noted with great sadness the unfortunate passing of the two school children in Rustenburg on Tuesday, 13th March 2018.
The Executive Mayor Mpho Khunou, accompanied by Ward Councillors, visited the bereaved families of the deceased to deliver the message of hope and comfort.
“It is sad that, young as they were, they had just started their lives and were venturing into the bright promises and hope of life. We at the Rustenburg Local Municipality continue to encourage motorists and pedestrians to always obey the rules of the road and be patient with one another, so that we may contribute in the campaign to save lives and reduce road fatalities,” said Khunou.
