The North West Department of Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development (READ) has dimissed media reports on the alleged “gift” of cattle worth R1.5million to the former president Jacob Zuma from Premier Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo through the Department.
Departmental spokesperson, Emelda Setlhako said the Department can confirm that it had a three-year contract with AgriDelight Training and Consulting Company as an implementing agent which has since ended in October 2017.

“The Department strongly refutes allegations that the transaction on “gift” of cattle was paid using departmental funds. We can further confirm that all beneficiaries across departmental programmes benefited accordingly as planned,” said Setlhako.

She said READ will continue to serve its clients and the province at large in fulfilling its apex role in the growth of the provincial economy. “We will also observe developments around these allegations closely and if needs be, we will consider legal recourse on this matter,” said Setlhako.
