Burger-King sponsored Amajita have advanced to the third and final round of the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
This comes after they thrashed Mozambique 3-0 at Moruleng Stadium near Rustenburg on Sunday afternoon (20 May 2018) in the second leg second round qualifier – winning 4-1 on aggregate after the first leg ended 1-1.
Two goals from striker Lyle Foster and another from Wiseman Meyiwa were enough for Thabo Senong’s charges to march to the next round, where they will meet Malawi who defeated Angola 4-1 on agreegate.
With an away goal advantage, Amajita started the match rather slow, with the visitors dictating terms.
But it was the home side that found the back of the net through Meyiwa in the 9thminute.
South Africa increased the lead in the 32ndminute through Lyle Foster.
The Orlando Pirates striker was back in the thick of things as he headed his second of the day, and third for Amajita to take an assailable 3-0 lead.
But in the 82ndminute defender Malebogo Modise was adjudged to have committed a foul in the box but goalkeeper, and captain of the team, Khulekani Kubheka, kept the scoreline intact as he saved the resultant penalty.
The match ended three nil to South Africa – winning 4-1 on aggregate.
They will now face Malawi who beat Angola 5-3 on aggregate – Angola won the first leg 2-1 but lost 1-4 at home.
South Africa and Malawi will meet in July.
The winner will qualify for the 2019 CAF Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Niger – where they top four countries at the 8-nation event will qualify for the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup, which will be held in Poland. http://www.safa.new
