PASSING OF CDE SIMON KLAAS
The African National Congress (ANC) in Bokone Bophirima mourns the passing of one of our movement’s dedicated members, Cde Simon Klaas.
We send heartfelt condolences to the Klaas family and friends, the
community of Letlhabile and membership of the ANC in Madibeng Cde Klaas is undoubtedly an accomplished, dynamic and courageous public
leader who was among leaders who possessed extraordinary, tactical political skills.
For the entire time that he was a member of the ANC in Bokone Bophirima, he was a determined an committed leader whose vision and ideals were to fight for the rights of those were faced with the harsh conditions of living in poverty, underdevelopment and those who experienced gender
discrimination in South Africa.
Cde Simon Klaas is a political activist whose dedication to the struggle for the poor saw him joined the South African National Civic Organization in Letlhabile in 1987. In 1988 he became a NUMSA shopsteward and later became a Congress of South African Trade Union (COSATU) shopsteward in Brits 1990. He served in various positions in
the ANC from branch, sub-regional and regional level.
Cde Klaas was deployed by the ANC at the Brits Transitional Local Council in 1995 as a Ward Councillor in Letlhabile, where in 2000 he was nominated to become a Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) responsible
for Finance and ultimately an MMC for Human Settlements and Planning in 2006. He then became MMC for Infrastructure and Technical Service in 2011. From 2014 to 2016 he was ANC Chief Whip in Madibeng Local
Municipality. At the time of his passing he was Single Whip at Bojanala District Municipality since 2016.
He was born on 05 May 1955 at Bethel in the Eastern Cape.
