In a continued effort to make healthcare accessible to everyone, the Nedbank Foundation, in partnership with PinkDrive, will afford the communities of Ledig, Mogwase and Moruleng in the North West Province the opportunity to access free cancer-screening services.
The screenings will include mammograms, pap smears and clinical breast examinations. More Balls Than Most (MBTM), an organisation that focuses on promoting awareness about the importance of early detection of prostate and testicular cancer, will be providing Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) screenings for Prostate and Testicular Cancer.
The Department of Social Development is committed to strengthening families, empowering women, keeping parents alive, preventing diseases and giving children a chance to a normal family life. Initiatives such as this one, said Deputy Minister Mrs Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, assist the Department in fulfilling its mandate. “Cancer is not a death sentence. Early detection helps prolong lives,” she added. SASSA services will also be available for the communities during the proceedings.
“Media reports have shown that the North West Province lacks cancer-screening services, and PinkDrive is humbled to be able to offer our services and education to the medically uninsured community members. I would like to thank the Nedbank Foundation for affording us the opportunity and platform to deliver our services,” said Ms Noelene Kotschan, CEO and Founder of PinkDrive.
Ms Lindiwe Temba, Divisional Executive: Nedbank Foundation, said that Nedbank is committed to serving communities. “Through this outreach, we are able to contribute towards building healthy communities through working with likeminded organisations to improve access to healthcare services especially in the rural areas,” she expressed.
The Sun City Resort, as a key business in the region, has committed to providing this mass cancer awareness activation with event management support to ensure successful execution at all the three venues. The resort will also provide refreshments. “Having the PinkDrive campaign come to our region is a welcomed initiative,” explained Mr Khumo Magano the Social Economic Development and Community Engagement Manager at Sun City.
