North West MEC for Education and Sports Development Sello Lehari is adamant that North West can improve its matric results position. Lehari was in an interactive session with over 1400 school principals across the province at Vaal Reefs, Technical Secondary School. He emphasised that budget allocation is still not enough to cater all schools with security.
MEC Lehari pleaded with principals to go back to Wednesday Schools Sport. He indicated that principals should implement the executive decisions made by the highest authority of the department.
He further indicated that teaching and learning time should be protected at all schools. He said principals should not participate in school disruption but notify the department.
“We are appealing to you to admit learners according to the departmental policies. You should inform the department about any challenges experienced in admitting learners.
We need to work together on the issue of overcrowding in schools. We should ensure that Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign is alive in all schools. Principals should inform the department on time about overcrowding and avoid inciting communities to disrupt schooling”, said MEC Lehari.
MEC Lehari emphasised that the province need to benchmark with the best performing provinces in order to improve the Matric results. He ordered that benchmarking should happen before the 15th February 2019. This benchmarking should also be done internally with Districts. Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati district should benchmark with Bojanala District as a well performing district. The Sub-district that is not performing should benchmark with the best performing Sub-district.
He further emphasised that there should be a clear communication from the province to schools. The department will conduct a Communication Workshop whereby principals will be taught about the communication imperatives.
