Various church denominations and community leaders including government used the last weekend before elections to pray for unity and peaceful elections.
North West Premier, Prof Tebogo Job Mokgoro led Marikana Peace Prayer Day activities this weekend, as part of the North West Provincial Government’s efforts to bring interventions for the revival and restoration of Wonderkop.
Premier Mokgoro kick-started the day by presenting a cheque and launching the Wonderkop Soup Kitchen, funded by the Department of Social Development. Uniforms, toiletries and sanitary pads will also be handed to children who are disadvantaged by the 2012 Marikana incident.
Premier Mokgoro proceed to the Marikana Peace Prayer Service organized jointly with the Wonderkop Pastors Fraternal and Interfaith Organizations in the quest to seek divine intervention against all forms of social ills and moral disintegration, to break new grounds towards peace and stability in the area.
During the Peace Prayer Service, Premier Mokgoro officially opened the Wonderkop Soccer Tournament which will conclude the activities of the day.
