The Executive Mayor of Rustenburg Local Municipality, Mpho Khunou joined millions of global citizens, in taking time to honour and remember the legacy of South African Statesman, former President Nelson Mandela. The day, which has been officially proclaimed by the United Nations (UN) in 2009, has been celebrated annually on Madiba’s birthday (18th July).
Executive Mayor, was at Rustenburg LaerSkool Noord yesterday, to spend time with the elderly in celebrating Nelson Mandela day and donated blankets, in the spirit of selflessness and assisting those in need. Rustenburg based mining operation’s representatives of Anglo American, were also present to join the Executive Mayor in spending time with the eldery.
The Executive Mayor was accompanied by Speaker of Council Shiela Mabale-Huma, Levy Mokwele, Latelang Nkgwang. In another activity to mark Nelson Mandela Day, the Executive Mayor later participated in the renovation of the Tantanana Primary School Hall, were ablution facilities were repaired and walls were painted. Present at this activity were MMC for Publc Safety Michael Mhlung, MMC for Technical Infrastructure Services, MMC for Human Settlements Victoria Makhaula as well as Municipal officials.
