Rustenburg back to normality

Taxi Operators led by Bojanala1 Regional Taxi Council promised a peaceful march in Rustenburg today and the march was indeed peaceful. Scores of taxi operators armed with more than 2000 mini-bus taxis took to the streets today demanding better service from the Rustenburg Local Municipality. Taxi drivers started their daily duties early in the morning and around 8am they stopped. They gatthered between Noord and Tlhabane before they marched to the municipality. The cbd came to a stand still as shop owners closed shop fearing wild spread looting. But the disciplined taxi operators marched peacefully and handed over their memorandum of demands. Then the taxi operators went back to the taxi rank after Acting Executive Mayor, Lucky Kgaladi accepeted the memorandum and committed that the municipality will respond.

Here are some of the demands from taxi operators:

> We demand lights at both Zinniaville and Rustenburg Taxi Ranks and regular maintenance to curb criminal activities

> We demand the removal of refuse that is rotten in our ranks

> We demand the fixing of all potholes in and around our ranks

> We demand the establishment of rank management/committe to look after the ranks

> We demand the removal of hawkers who are trading with gas stoves or cylinders and fire between the taxis and platforms

> We demand the upgrading of the taxi rank into levels
