Make sure you have enough water in your house or business place starting this evening – Tuesday.
The Rustenburg Local Municipality after meeting stakeholders, will today implement water restrictions for all Rustenburg areas. Currently the command reservoir have no spare capacity; no available water which can be used a contingency supply to residents, businesses and industries
in the event that normal storage supply is depleted.
The municipality said due to the absence of rainfall in the Rustenburg area after winter, coupled with the daily consumption of water by private and commercial clients, the water restrictions are necessary as
any delay in the water management plan, may result in the depletion of water supply to residents.
Municipal spokesperson, David Magae said as access to water is a human rights matter, as outlined by the Water Services Act No. 108 of
1997, as a result the Municipality has communicated a clear water management restriction plan
to representatives of the following stakeholders; Magalies Water, Rand Water, Impala, Glencore, Anglo American, Water and Sanitation Services South Africa (Pty) Ltd (WSSA) and Rainbow
Chicken Limited (RCL Foods) as the water restrictions will also impact negatively on the access to
water by commercial clients/industries thus affecting production.
“A scheduled restriction will start from 17:00 pm every evening to 05:00 am every morning up until
the system recovers or the any rainfall impacts positively on the water levels in the various
dams. We edge all consumers to use water sparingly, to avoid watering their gardens, cleaning
or filling their swimming pools.
The Municipality apologizes for the inconvenience this may cause,” said Magae
