The Department of Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga warned both the Free State and Gauteng provinces, that they should be aware of the North West province in the 2020 National Senior Certificate examinations.
Minister Motshekga congratulated the North West province for obtaining position 3 in the 2019 National Senior Certificate Results. She highlighted that such an achievement for the province did not come easy, a great price had to be paid.
“We have a great respect to this province, they have outdone themselves irrespective of being under Administration. This province is under Section 100 (1)(b) but continued to perform exceptionally well. I would like to encourage them to remain in position 3, they should never allow themselves to fall down.
“We want the NW province to share strategies of how they have achieved this milestone improvement and they should indicate on how they will remain in the top position. We want this province to improve their performance in the mathematics. In the nearest future when we come back, we will look at the well-being of the learner. Our learners are confronted by learner pregnancy, substance abuse, learner drop out and many problems “,said Minister Minister Motshekga.
The North West Education MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela in her response during the meeting thanked all the stakeholders.
“This year our focus will be on infrastructure, we will ensure that the conditions of our schools are improved. As a department we are going to strengthen consequence management, managers will manage. I wish to thank all stakeholders who helped us to obtain the third position. I should also indicate that we will continue with “Ngwana Sejo oa tlhakanelwa campaign”, said MEC Matsemela.
