Who is the North West Provincial Police Commisioner? Many North West citizens may struggle to answer the question. But we (North West News Online) can tell you that his name is Lieutenant-General Sello Kwena. The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management once again postponed the much anticipated introduction of Lieutenant-General Kwena. Lieutenant-General was appointed last year as the new North West Provincial Police Commissioner. Last month, the department planned to introduce him to the public in Phokeng but the event was later moved up. Today, 11 February 2020, MEC Sello Lehari was supposed to introduce the Lieutenant-General but 30 minutes before the big announcement, the event was cancelled. This is what the department wrote on their WhatsApp Group:”Dear colleagues; We would like to sincerely apologize for the rearrangement of the planned media briefing to introduce the Provincial Police Commissioner. The MEC has an urgent matter that needs his immediate attention. The rescheduled date shall be communicated in time. We would like to thank you for your patience and professionalism”.

Lieutenant- General Kwena joined the police service in 1988 and he has more than 31 years’ service. He was appointed as a lieutenant-general on 1 September 2016 as the divisional commissioner of human resource utilisation. He served as a station commander for the following police stations in the North West province; Makwassie Hills, Jouberton, Mmabatho, and also served as a cluster commander of Vryburg district.
