School health nurses are currently visiting schools in the North West to administer Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine to girls in Grade Five. Parents whose children are to get the HPV vaccine are urged to sign consent forms.

The campaign started on 11 February and will continue until 27 March.

HPV is a group of more than 150 related viruses that are transmitted through sexual intercourse. The virus can infect the genital area and end up causing genital warts and different cancers.

The department runs the campaign twice a year. The second dose will be administered between August and September.
