Easter Weekend Accidents – North West had three crashes that claimed three lives

Coronavirus lockdown decreased movements during the Easter weekend. The lockdown also reduced the number of car accidents around the country. In the North West Province only three accidents were reported between Thursday and Monday. Those accidents claimed three lives. Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula said over that weekend, a total of 104,140 vehicles were stopped and checked at at roadblocks.

Mbalula said that the number of vehicles impounded was 236 with 171 vehicles discontinued due to unroadworthiness.

“This year’s Easter holidays came against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to a nation-wide lockdown. With 70% reduction of cars on our roads we must commend our people for compliance,” said Mbalula.
