Earlier this afternoon, the Executive Mayor of Rustenburg Local Municipality Councillor Mpho Khunou had a media interview with Nu Inferno Television on the work which was by the Municipality since the first announcement of the 21-day national lockdown in late March. Rustenburg has been at the forefront of concerted efforts of implementing interventions for Covid-19 including, setting up a homeless shelter since the beginning of the lockdown.
The Municipality, will be reopening in the days to come to ensure that additional services are provided over the provision of the essential services which been rendered uninterrupted. The Executive Mayor, said he was impressed with the level of co-operation from various stakeholders, “today was a follow-up meeting which was to see if Rustenburg was on track, with the implementation of all measures to ensure compliance with level 4 regulations. We are happy that the mining sector already has given us an indication of resumption of operations and how that will be done. In the coming week, we will be receiving full reports on how all the mining in our City will be carried out”.
The City has so far been able to conduct communication and awareness campaign in the various parts of Rustenburg on Covid-19 as well as donating sanitizers to communities. Additionally, the City has upped the ante on its water service delivery through the intervention of the department of Water, Sanitation and Human Settlements with tankering to communities, who have had challenges with access to water.
