North West Premier, Prof Tebogo Job Mokgoro, has announced with profound sadness, that the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs, Gordon Kegakilwe passed away on Monday, 06 July 2020 after a short and serious illness.
MEC Kegakilwe was admitted with COVID pneumonia Sunday afternoon at the Vryburg Private Hospital and was immediately put on oxygen; and a decision was taken on Monday to transfer him to a medical facility in Klerksdorp.
He was transported from Vryburg to Klerksdorp in an ambulance and upon arrival in Klerksdorp, he suffered a cardiac arrest and despite all the efforts by the medical personnel, he succumbed and lost his life.
On behalf of the people and the Provincial Government, Premier Mokgoro has sent his condolences to the family and friends of the late MEC Kegakilwe, who he said “had distinguished himself as one of the finest to have come from the ranks of the governing African National Congress and a tried and tested leader”.
The African National Congress in the North West said it dips its revolutionary flag in mourning one of its gallant sons, Gordon Mothibedi Kegakilwe, a committed servant of our people.
Gordon Kegakilwe served the organization in various capacities including as ANC Regional Chairperson in the Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati Region, Provincial Deputy Secretary of the ANC in the province. At the time of his passing he was appointed by the ANC NEC to serve in the Interim Provincial Committee in the North West.
The Chief Whip of the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature, Paul Sebegoe has also reacted with shock to report that Kegakilwe has allegedly succumbed to Covid-19 in hospital.
