The North West Department of Education has been hit with a triple tragedy. According to a media statement released by the department, two learner siblings aged 7 and 10 years from Mochware Primary School in Ganyesa burnt in a shack on the weekend. In a separate incident Ganyesa Police found a 56 year old teacher from Ekron Primary School in Mmadinonyane village dead on her bed, allegedly strangled. The two incidents are in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District.


The MEC for Education in the North West, Mmaphefo Matsemela said the news brought a cold sombre moment in the department.
“I am shattered at the loss of our esteemed teacher and our beacons of hope for the future in our two learners. On behalf of the department I wish to convey heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of these untimely deaths. It was a sombre mood right upon receiving the news. May their souls rest in eternal peace,” said Matsemela.

The motive for the murder of the teacher is unknown and no arrests have been made, yet.
The dates for memorial services are yet to be communicated.

The Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Sello Kwena has condemned the incident and said the police will work hard to find the suspect in the alleged murder case of the teacher.
