The North West province’s COVID-19 infection rate is at 17 791. With the Bojanala region accounting just under 60% of these infections, the department of Community Safety and Transport Management has launched a campaign to disinfect taxi ranks across the province in a bid to help curb the spread of the virus in the province. The campaign which kickstarted in Morelete last Wednesday, reached the Rustenburg Taxi Rank this morning.
The departmental spokesperson Oshebeng Koonyaditse said that the campaign will be moving across the province.”We have 54 taxi ranks in all four districts. The process of assisting taxi operators began on April 07 when Premier launched the distribution of personal protective equipment PPEs to the taxi industry. This continues with the disinfection of taxi ranks. MEC Lehari continued this campaign in Moretele Provincial Traffic offices and Makapanstad taxi rank as part of Mandela month activities. Today the process went on in Rustenburg and will be going to other areas throughout the Province” said Koonyaditse.
Both the taxi ranks and bus rank will continue to be disinfected later in the evening.
