Traffic officer knocked off the road in Brits

A traffic officer has sustained minor injuries after being knocked off by a fleeing driver in Brits. According to the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Provincial Inspector Tshepang Masike had stopped the driver whose car indicators suggested that he was about to stop. However, as Masike approached the vehicle, the driver sped off and in the process bumped-on the traffic officer pushing him to the sidewalk way.

“The slightly injured officer was immediately rushed to Brits Medi Clinic for medical attention. After observation and X-rays were conducted he was fortunately discharged. She was cleared off any injuries and will be back at work tomorrow, 31 July 2020” reads a statement by the department.

MEC Sello Lehari appealed to motorists to be respectful towards officers as well as corporate with law enforcement officers. A case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened and is being investigated by the Brits Police Station.
