Butinyana Joseph Khuabo (28) will appear again in court on Monday. Khuano is accused of killing his 73-year-old mother, Atalina Maria Khuabo. He will remain in custody after court appearance yesterday.
Khuabo appeared in court subsequent to his arrest by Coligny police on Monday, 14 September 2020. According to information received, an argument that ensued between Huabo and his mother, led to the brutal assault of the old woman. The old woman was in the bedroom when her son allegedly hacked her twice with an axe in her neck. The incident took place at Extension 7, Tlhabologang Location in Coligny.
A family member, who came to the house shortly after the incident, alerted the police and emergency services. Atalina was certified dead on the scene by members of Emergency Medical Rescue Services.
In another unrelated incident in Jouberton, a 31-year-old mother was arrested on Tuesday, 15 September 2020, for the alleged double murder of her two daughters, aged 3 and 21 months. She was arrested following a post mortem conducted after the children’s deaths on Wednesday, 5 August 2020, indicated that they were poisoned. The mother alleged in the beginning that she took the children after they became ill to a local hospital, where they were both declared dead on arrival. Consequent to the post mortem results, the initial inquest docket was changed to two counts of murder. The mother was questioned and she ultimately admitted to poisoning her children. She is expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court today for the first time on two counts of murder.
The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, appeals to the public to protect the vulnerable in society, which is women and children, from harm. He further encouraged a peaceful resolution of conflicts and other challenges including through seeking assistance from professionals such as social workers.
