The Queen Mother of Royal Bafokeng Nation, Dr Mmemogolo Semane Molotlogei is no more.

The Queen Mother, Mmemogolo as she was affectionately known died over the weekend. Circumstances surrounding her death are still not officially available. In a statement the family said they will communicate further details.

The Queen Mother was the founder of the Bafokeng Women’s Club and also the Patron / Founder of the Thuto Thebe Educational Fund that is focused on education and community development advocacy in memory of both her husband, Kgosi Edward Lebone, and her firstborn son Kgosi Mollwane Lebone II.

Expressing his profound sorrow and heartfelt condolences to the Molotlegi family and Bafokeng, North West Premier Job Mokgoro said Mmemogolo’s death is a great loss not only to the family, but to the entire North West population.

Mokgoro said the consistent role played by Mmemogolo Semane Molotlegi in the development of rural areas through health and education advocacy programmes as well as food security initiatives, did not go unnoticed.

“We remember her as a unifier; someone who never compromised the interests of the poor and vulnerable; an exemplary leader; a Mother; a true nation builder. As we mourn her untimely death, we also keep her family and the Royal Bafokeng Nation in our thoughts and prayers, and send my deepest condolences, on behalf of the Provincial Government Executive Council and the people of the North West Province” said Mokgoro.
