The Local Municipality of Madibeng in the Bojanala District has a new Executive Mayor. Joseph Ratloi was sworn in today. Addresing the media immediately after resuming office, Ratloi said Madibeng Tourism, Water and Sanitation, Communication Strategy, Potholes, Street Lamps and Road Infrastructure top the list of this priorities. Ratloi who is from Letlhabile said he will use the remaining term of office to engage with local communities to fast track service delivery.

Ratloi was elected Executive Mayor after Jostina Mothibi was ousted via a motion of no confidence last week. Mothibi has been under fire for several years and opposition parties accused her of failing to run the Municipality. Mothibi and other ANC councillors walked out of the meeting before the vote.

Ratloi was voted as the new mayor with 24 votes and Mabunda obtained 16 votes.

“I’m looking forward to bring change in this Municipality. We are working very close to the administrator to ensure stability. We have several challenges but we will overcome them. We need to work on our communication strategy. Our communities need to be informed all the time. We must work on tourism, water and sanitation,” said Ratloi.
