Women waste reclaimers in Mahikeng got empowered. Their lives will never be the same – thanks to Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA)
According to a statement from Coca Cola – CCBSA has donated two trailers worth R72 000 to the Mahikeng Buy Back Centre. The Coca-Cola Company and all its bottling partners including CCBSA are leading the industry to help collect and recycle a bottle or can for everyone we sell by 2030. This can only be achieved by partnering with communities and centres like the Mahikeng Buy Back Centre which play a pivotal role in the country’s waste management.
“As part of the country’s informal waste sector, they help to recover recyclables from household waste streams, as well as waste materials that are sent to landfill sites.
The trailers will go a long way in supporting the waste reclaimers in their day to day transportation of recyclable material. In addition, this centre has 26 waste reclaimers which are mostly women. As a business, CCBSA seeks to empower women in our communities so they can thrive and be able to support their families within the informal sector,” read the statement.
