North West Government to revive Pilanesburg International Airport

The MEC for the department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari, paid an oversight visit to Pilanesburg International Airport today, Friday, 04 June 2021.

During the budget speech on Tuesday, MEC Lehari committed to ensuring the outstanding refurbishments at the airport will be done within the current fiscus.

“The department has embarked on an airlift strategy that will seek to operationalise the airports and make air transport a catalyst to the economic recovery programme of the province”, MEC Lehari repeated what he said during the budget speech.

MEC raised concerns on the state of the Pilanesburg International airport and indicated that there is a lot to be done to get the airport to a satisfactory level.

“We need all hands on deck to revive the airport. This airport is strategic to create employment and also attract tourists. If we leave it to ruined and deteriorate further, we would not be doing justice to the people of North West and local economy. There is a lot of potential here.” MEC Lehari said.

The MEC once more vowed as he had done during his appearance to the Portfolio Committee last week Friday, to visit these strategic assets as he put it, more frequently to the to ensure progress.
