Seven people lost their lives while travelling on the N4 in two separate accidents this morning and yesterday. Those who lost their lives include a six months-old baby. The first accident, that claimed four lives happened on the N4, between Rustenburg’s Waterfall Mall and the Kroondal offramp yesterday.
Two of the four deceased were trapped in the vehicle and succumbed to their injuries, while the other two, travelling in separate cars, passed on after being transported to the hospital.
This morning, three lives were lost in a head on collision. The accident took place on the N4, outside of Rustenburg. In a statment, The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management said MEC Sello Lehari was saddened upon hearing the news of this tragedy.
“News of this nature always break my heart. I cannot imagine how their families feel. I pray that you are strengthened in this tough time. Please accept my sincere condolences,” said the MEC in a statement.
Furthermore, MEC Lehari has thanked law enforcement and emergency services officials for their prompt response to incidents that threaten the lives of community members.
“Your work does not go unnoticed. I have watched you work relentlessly this entire festive season; one of the busiest times in the life of a law enforcement and emergency officer. Each and every operation is conducted with great profession and I am proud to be part of this team.” MEC Lehari added.
Police in Rustenburg are investigating a cases of culpable homicide.
